Plasmonic MIM and MSM Waveguide Couplers for Plasmonic Integrated Computing System

Plasmonic metal-insulator-metal waveguide (MIM WG) is a promising building block of devices plasmonic computing system, and metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) WG offers high-speed detection plasmon signals. MIM MSM couplers are an essential component any integrated system that requires interface between the electronic circuits. However, have not yet been explored systematically studied. This work analyzes benchmarks various coupling schemes WGs to single out best approach. From detailed numerical analysis considering trade-offs among loss, total capacitance, noise, bandwidth, holistic metric introduced quantify compare system-level performance couplers, novel scheme identified as most attractive choice for two WGs.
